How to Protect Yourself from Telegram Investment Scams
Members of the public should exercise caution when dealing with investment opportunities promoted through the internet and social media. Promises of exceptionally high returns within a short period should be carefully verified before any money is transferred.
The following precautions can help reduce the risk of financial loss:
- Be cautious of guaranteed profits: No legitimate investment can guarantee exceptionally high returns without risk. Treat such promises with suspicion.
- Verify bank account details: Before transferring money, check the identity of the recipient and the credibility of the investment company.
- Avoid making rushed payments: Pressure to transfer money immediately can be a warning sign of a potential scam.
- Protect your personal information: Never share your banking credentials, passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) with others.
- Report suspicious activity: If you lose money or encounter a suspected scam, contact your bank immediately and report the incident to the relevant police authorities or cybercrime investigators.
Although applications such as Telegram are widely used for communication, not every investment opportunity promoted through these platforms is genuine. Verifying the legitimacy of an investment before transferring money is an important step towards protecting yourself from financial fraud.
